Baseball players spit because they use chewing tobacco and MOST OFTEN because they spit sunflower seeds out. Chewing sunflower seeds is baseball tradition and somewhat superstitious.

Most of the players chew something (tobacco, gum, sunflower seeds) to keep their mouths wet while playing. This causes them to have to spit more.

what happens is that they chew tobacco and when they chew tobacco they can't swallow the saliva because its no good to the health also the tobacco is known to give them energy notice every player that likes to spit a lot you will obviously see him chewing something

over exertion from running usually causes us to want to spit more so we can breathe easier. Also most of us chew or eat seeds

They like chewing tobacco. Don't do that unless you want throat, mouth, gum,, and/or tonue cancer. Stick to gum or sunflower seeds.
