I saw that article. She probably was, although it has long been debated about whether or not Mona Lisa was even a real person.

IF she was in fact Lisa Del Giocondo, yes. But we aren't sure. And that seems too obvious. I suspect she was a lover of the painter,who apparently was not totally homosexual, or an unknown model he met.

Since the painting is an artists representation of a person (not necessarily accurate). I think it would be impossible to determine such a detail from the picture.
