The pope quoted an ancient emperor, and didn't use his own words. As a Muslim, I really wasn't that offended but knew that others would be. He can say whatever he wants. I was embarrassed to hear that people were protesting violently and especially that people had been killed. These people do not know the true meaning of Islam and are an embarrassment to all of us who do. Yes, to answer your question, very ironic.
