I believe it to be that of what we do ourselves dies with us because noone else is influenced or affected by what it is you have done. But what you do for others and the world for ever remains immortal because it will pass through them in time and in memory to others.
Example; If all things that Exist in the world had been left as an idea or a thought it would have died with that person and not affected others as it has through out time and history. But because it was shared with others and passed on it has become immortal because of history books and stories through the generations that make it so.

For the first sentence, i think it means that whatever we do personally stays with us and can't change it. The second sentence says that when we help other people or the world, it will always be a factor and never go away. For ex. if you help the world out by solving pollution then you helped it become immortal.

If i am on the bank fishing, and catch a nice trout for myself while a hungry man watches on--if i take my knowledge of fishing and the fish that i have caught home-it dies with me--if i teach the hungry man to fish for himself--he will eat and pass the knowledge on to future generations--and so on--thus immortal

It means that we must help other people... what we do for others is what really matters... no one remember the fact that you lost a few extra pounds (for example)...but if you look after children that are homeless, that would mean something...you might become inmortal...inmortal in ther people minds..

i think that like if u do drugs then that will effect you until you die.and whatever you do to anyone or the world will stay the same becuz it affects other people and not just you.thats what i think.
