The funniest thing, I chose to do a speech about that for my English class! I had to read it yesterday in front of the whole class. Here it is (my speeches arent really the best)...
The topic that I chose to support is the death penalty. The death penalty should be more enforced in the United States of America because of the homicide rates throughout this country. There have been 17,522 murders that have been committed so far this year in the US, and this is still getting higher. There is not a day that goes by without somebody getting killed. Horrible reports of new murders are always in the news. Murderers are out there and we are the ones that have to worry about them all the time. Children are being tortured, women are being raped, and many other terrible crimes are killing innocent citizens. Nobody deserves to die, unless they truly deserve it. From my point of view, I believe in an eye for an eye. If somebody kills an innocent person for no good reason what’s so ever, they should be sentenced to death. No second chances should be granted from the law. If they are willing to kill someone, they should be willing to pay the consequences. We don’t need people like this in our society. It is definitely not fair for us all to suffer even thinking about it. I support the death penalty for many reasons. First off, the death penalty makes the world a better place. It gets killers off the streets and makes everyone feel much safer. When murderers serve time, they eventually are let out. Then they can go back out there in the world and finish off more crimes they planned out all along. Also, they would have there revenge on the witnesses or any other people that were involved with their past crime. If we were to let these people out of jail for the murder they committed, who knows what that person could do once they are out and in the world. When the criminal’s life is terminated there is no risk of them recommitting a crime. It prevents a murderer from having the chance to murder again. Capital punishment gives peace of mind to the victim’s family and friends. Since the victim is related to them in some way or another, the killer would probably go after these people also. This penalty is more humane than life in prison. The criminal should not have to live most of their lives in prison thinking about what they have done. There is no point in that. Most of the time, they could be planning their next murder when they are let out. Nobody has the right to kill. The only people who really do have the right to kill are the ones that sentence these kinds of people to death. This form of punishment also discourages many people from committing violent crimes. Knowing the consequences for the actions that could be made, they would think twice before doing something that they will regret. It acts as a deterrent against committing murderous crimes. People might think twice before they murder. Also, it costs a lot more to keep someone in prison then to execute them. We are all paying taxes to keep their sick minds in jail. Just kill them off and get it over with. It will save the government and the people a lot of money. The murderer probably committed the crime because they actually wanted to go to jail. They could have had an extremely low income or they were probably homeless. To them, being in jail is like having a better home. The death penalty saves taxpayers money because they do not have to support the criminals for their lifetime sentence in jail. Many taxpayers don't even want to spend their money keeping serial killers alive. Everybody has mixed feelings about this kind of argument. But just think about it, how would you feel if some person killed someone you loved. I know I would want them to pay for their actions. Many people argue that when we kill these sick people, we are just as bad as them. I don’t believe that. It really depends on the kind of murder they committed. They might have shot, stabbed, poisoned, or even hacked up the person and put their remains in a garbage bag, then threw them in the nearest woods. I don’t care, one way or another, they should die for their messed up actions. If you ask me, they should be killed the same way they killed their victims. The death penalty is irreversible. Once the person is put to death after their crime, there is no way the courts can change their mind. The person is no longer on the face of this earth. Innocent people cannot be brought back. This is why the suspect better be really considered guilty before anything is done about it. The courts have to be very sure about what the crime was all about and who and what was involved. There also has to be plenty of logical evidence to support their theories about the suspect. As long as the suspect is 100% guilty, kill them. This penalty basically gives criminals a fair punishment for their wrong actions. It is a sense of fairness. Many people find this penalty as “cruel and unusual punishment”. Logically, it was cruel and unusual punishment for the victim! Fair is fair. It puts lives of violent crimes to an end. Some say that the death penalty can fail and it would violate the right that you cannot be tortured. They violated the law and tortured their victims in the first place. If the death sentenced to them does not work at first, try again until they are dead and gone. I am for the death penalty and I think we should enforce it.

No. Its murder and its wrong. Vengeance belongs to the Lord. NOBODY has the right to take away a human life, and that includes the government and the law. People need to get over this cowboy mentality and look deeper within. They sound like idiots and barbarians. It is inhumane and taking away a life does not help anyone. Whether you want to believe it or not, God offers redemption to all. Even murderers. It doesn't do anyone any ounce of good to ease their pain through the death of someone else. Yes, criminals give away their basic rights and should be imprisoned and punished. And if they do not choose redemption, sitting in a prison for the rest of their lives is a better punishment. Also, the system is so unfair that the death penalty shouldn't be given to anyone. Minorities are way more likely to be given it than whites, and there are many people who have been found innocent of crimes while they sit on death row. It is wrong all around.

Absolutely practiced.
In fact, I believe we should do what they used to do to criminals sentenced to death long ago.
Make it public. Broadcast it on tv. It was a family event in the past, where towns all gathered together to see the criminal finally pay for their crimes. Make it hurt, and not a pretty sight.
Hear me out...
Take the nicey nice out of it, If we stopped just "putting people to sleep" for the sake of being humane (considering what the criminal did to deserve the sentence)
Would you or anyone be more likely to commit death warranting crimes if you knew the chance of public execution, or severe punishment was the fate? It may make someone think twice.
Instead, they just get an injection, and drift off to la la land.
Ha, and the funny thing is... before they stick the needle in your arm that will send the silent poison in your blood sysem.. they swab your arm with alcohol to prevent any infection! How rediculous is that?

The majority of Americans favor Capital Punishment. I think Truman Capote said it best in his true story of, "In Cold Blood" pointing out it was the government who killed in premeditated, cold blood. It does not deter crime, it does not bring back the victims, it does not heal the wounds of those left behind. Of the 90-some death penalty cases I worked on, only one defendant was not on drugs at the time of the murder(s) Let's concentrate on some of the causes.

i think if you murder someone then you should fry in the electric chair or what ever means are available within one year of being convicted and in fairness you should only get one (1) appeal if you lose the appeal then you should be executed immediately
