It's a result of the evil toothpick/restaurant cartel.
They soak the toothpicks in THC as a wood preservative and to keep the pointy ends sharp. It is well known that men are much more susceptable to THC than women. As a result, men become addicted to the THC and have a strong desire to suck on toothpicks. It also gives them the munchies driving the profits of restaurants thru the roof!
People are becoming aware of this threat to our society, It is my understanding that California is about to put an anti-toothpick referendum on the ballot. If it passes, when you go into a restaurant in California, you'll have to tell the hostess if you want toothpick or non toothpick seating.
