How do I download my home video to my IMac using my GR-72D JVC camcorder?

I'm not exuberantly familiar with macs and I'm definitely not familiar with your camcorder model. but that said, if your JVC is Mini DV, then your cam should have a firewire connection on it. and i do think that macs come with firewire connections as well... so what you would need then is a firewire cable and software that is capable of pulling your video using the firewire connection. this is probably already standard with the iMac...

now if your cam is not Mini DV, then you're going to need to get some kind of adapter for your iMac that will allow you to capture video. in the PC world, it's called a video capture card and is more often coupled with a video adapter. you'll either have an s-video or yellow-red-white cable setup.
