If you can feel your heart pumping without feeling it with your hand, then that is a bad sign. Palpitations refers to your hearth missing a beat. But I once remarked to my doctor that at night I could feel my heart beating as I lay in bed and he said that would be serious except he had checked me out and there was nothing seriously wrong with my heart. But it is a bad sign and you should check with your cardio doctor to make sure it's nothing to worry about - don't just ignore it.

If i am not mistaken, your symptoms is called palpitations.
It can be normal, but it can be a sign of something. Heart problems, lungs, etc. Is it the first time, or u have been experiencing it for quite sometimes?
U can get palpitations after vigorous exercise, that's normal, but if u experienced it in everyday normal chores, it can point out somewhere.
The best is u see ur GP, let him examine u closely.
U have to give details like previous illnesses, family history of heart problems.
He might do some test if the history is relevent to heart problem, ie. ECG, blood test, etc.
Anyway, rest assure, nothing too serious. But, see ur GP as soon.

Usually if I'm doing something very strenuous or I'm very nervous I can as my heart rate will speed up.
