I too believe in volunteerism...also by saying hello to people you meet..opening a door for someone, picking up someones keys when the drop them, giving people genuine compliments.
I do all these...I am a volunteer for hospice plus I am on a local Relay for Life team. There are so many opportunities to do nice things for other people no matter how small.
Great question btw! You are most welcome and thanks!

The key to be kind and considerate is to be locked up in your parent's basement away from people and you will soon learn that your real friend's are the emaginary ones that bring you ghost toast, air pudding, and dust drinks when you're hungry. Those friends are the ones who teach you that when you are kind you get the dust drinks and when you're considerate you'll get air pudding but when you're not you get nothing!

Upon arriving at the cash register in any store, we allow the person with fewer items ahead of us.
When someone can't find something at the store, I stop and assist her/him in finding it. Usually the more mature individuals. Should we enter any one place we hold the door for others behind us.

Volunteer, or participate in random acts of kindness events. (In my town, I know we have random acts of kindness day events at least once a year.)
