As the first commercially successful rap artist, Kurtis Blow is a towering figure in hip-hop history. His popularity and charisma helped prove that rap music was something more than a flash-in-the-pan novelty, paving the way for the even greater advances of Grandmaster Flash and Run-D.M.C. Blow was the first rapper to sign with (and release an album for) a major label; the first to have a single certified gold (1980's landmark "The Breaks"); the first to embark on a national (and international) concert tour; and the first to cement rap's mainstream marketability by signing an endorsement deal. For that matter, he was really the first significant solo rapper on record, and as such he was a natural focal point for many aspiring young MCs in the early days of hip-hop.

thats not an easy question to answer without writing an essay. rap and hip hop are two different things. rapping is just the MC element, while hip hop is more of a culture (DJ, MC, graffiti, breakdancing). hip hop all started in the mid 70s and emerged in the 80s. it evolved from some form of disco i believe. djs grandwizard theodore and grandmaster flash invented the scratch and started scratching to songs called breakbeats. soon after mcs started rapping over this and hip hop was formed. i think the first commercial hip hop group was sugarhill gang with rappers delight in 1979, and there was another group that released a rap song in 79 but i forget who. Blondie was in 1980.
also... herbie hancocks 'rockit' was the first mainstream single with scratching, in 83.

'definite i visit concur with Ello answer. Emma B, who do you imagine you're? For those those who has information in Hip Hop likely has better education then you honestly do and the right body of ideas to understand even as to close up even as no longer making experience. Rap artist isn't a uncommon project and is not any longer a oxymoron. that is humorous the same style of question like those are all you adult men ought to ask about Hip Hop. once you come back lower back with a valid question on attempting to bash on Hip Hop then i'd appreciate it. till then go study a e book, get some information interior that dome on authentic of your neck.
