Why was it not timed to be there for this event a total eclipse of the sun by the earth which has never been seen

Probably because the launch window did not extend into the eclipse window.

Their space suits and everything else were designed to work in full sunlight. Things might not have worked very well with only Earth-shine to light their way and without the heat from the Sun.

I think it would be neat to see a lunar eclipse from the Moon, but I'm not sure we could learn anything from it.

a lunar eclipse is cr#p. cr#p from earth and even worse on the moon as it would be all dark, not practical for a lunar landing.

cause then they would have no idea where they wee going cause its so effin dark!!!
