People tell me I am black and white, all or nothing. Sometimes I'm extremely feminine, sometimes masculine. Sometimes very happy, sometimes very depressed. Sometimes extremely social, other times completely withdrawn. What's your opinion on this?

SIMPLE, I'm just going to tell you straight. You have Whothehellami Syndrome. Most common in teenagers and young adults it affects 100% of the Earth's population. It does however affect some freespirited adults and mature children. Whothehellami Syndrome usually lasts for a couple of years until the individual sets personal goals and settles on some life taking direction towards achieving those goals. The problem occurs when an individual never sets any life goals, then Whothehellami Syndrome becomes Whathappenedtomylifeatosis. No one has ever recovered from the extreme depression this causes so be careful.

I have to answer this after seeing the irresponsible posts on here, especially the ones flinging out a diagnosis (to the psychology major: shame on you for flinging out a personality disorder - a lifetime pattern of behavior - on such little information). Everyone likes to diagnose as if they are a physician and site Wikipedia. Well, here you're getting it from REAL therapist, such as it is.... :)

Look, there is simple answer to your question: too little information to make a diagnosis! Ups and downs are normal. Being social at times and not beign social at other is ok. If your friend are saying you are black/white masculine/feminine - that tells me nothign without elaborating on the issue. Also, I see nothing about how you feel, eating/sleeping patterns. I'm also unable to assess your speech, posture, etc. as you are posting online.

So, nobody here should be providing a diagnosis. Period. If your symptoms are causing you distress, make an appointment with your primary health provider.

I know that it can be comforting to get immediate answers via the internet, especially if you are worried. Just be cautious that many of these folks are presenting an opinion with having no formal training or experience in the field.

Best of luck to you.

You do sound normal, which is part of being human. Unless your highs and Lows are VERy drastic then u may need medication for Bipolar.. I have an aunt like that and she is obviously a lil off. Luckily i have someone to compare myself with and i never thought i was normal. I always thought i should of been born a guy cause of my thoughts, feelings and ideas or so masculine and not femenine but with time I agree and I am happy with being a girl.. Look at other family member because it does run in the family, if you have something wrong or some kind of disorder...

Bipolar is a VERY extreme demonstration of this kind of behavior, but it's very likely that you just have mood swings. Don't label yourself unnecessarily. There are some things you can do to naturally contain your mood. Avoid stimunlants like caffiene, exercise every day, and (this is wierd, but helpful) make sure you drink enough water, and come up with at least a couple of cornerstones on which you build a routine. Consistancy is very important for people striving for stability. Your exercise is an excellent anchor. If you come up with a couple of other things to do the same time every day it will help you level out.

The best thing to do is speak to your doctor...

Judging from your symptoms you may either have some form of bipolar disorder (there are 4 types) or borderline personality disorder...

Both can be treated with medications but have a full evaluation by a trained, licenced, psychologist/psychiatrist first before accepting treatment...

A quote from my psychology professor at college: "We don't treat labels, we treat people. Labels are only there for the insurance companies."

The symptoms you're describing fit in with the diagnosis Borderline Personality Disorder. I'd go talk to a doctor.

Don't listen to the people who say you have bipolar disorder.

You're just human like the rest of us. We all experience our ups and downs and we all have our good and bad days and we all have energy sometimes and then other times, none at all. It doesn't necessarily need to be categorized as a disorder.

I would see a doctor but I would guess bi-polar or manic depressive. You otherwise might want to see a therapist. One of the two could give you a positive diagnosis and could make you feel good again. I hope you feel better soon!! :) God Bless

Obviously you should speak to your doctor. It could be bi-polar, or it may be a slight chemical imbalance. An imbalance can be treated with drugs...bi-polar usually your doctor will tell you to speak with a therapist before they will prescribe anything. Again, you could just be a girl!!! That whole back and forth thing can last from 12-30 :)

You do not have a disorder; you are human. Dont seek to be labeled as something because once you have the label it can never be removed.

Also you do not give enough detail to your symptoms or behaviors for you to receive an Axis I diagnosis.
