Hmmm...that's a tough one since I have a Fender Strat but I think a Les Paul is better.

I own both and they are totally different from each other.
The les paul is very easy to play and I prefer it over the strat but
sometimes I prefer the sound of the strat.
As for quality you get what you pay for!
They both make low end models that use lower quality hardware
but they still are better than no name brands.

Gibson... hands down! Makes other guitar look like toys (no offennce Fender lovers!)

IMHO, Fender quality has gone down in the past ten years. But that's just my opinion.
