Follow the fuel line from the pump to the gas tank. You will find a section where it is steel and rubber. The rubber part has a hole in it or it is rotton. It prevents the pump from sucking gas from the fuel tank.
Hopefuly you can find it along the fram, howerer it could be on top of the tank and you will have to drop the tank to get at it

You forgot to hook the cyphen to the fule line to bleed the line from the fuel filter to the fule pump and now you have air in the line. You need to prime that line and bleed it of air the n reconnect it is series to the fuel filter which you may want to change now.
