We are trying to find the words to the following:
Where a river flows into a larger body of water 5 letters and all we can come up with is inlet, creek, or fjord.
Type of fan that is deposited at the base of a moutian.
Now we would have said plucking or slumping but it does not fit in the space. This is a cross word puzzle and we know for certain the second one has 8 letters the second letter is l and the sixth letter is i. However we can not answer for certain on the firt one until we figure out the second one. Any one good in Earth Science please help. The teacher did not send a word list home, or a book.Have filled in the rest viz online tools suck as Wikipedia. Thanks!

For the first one, I would say mouth. As in the mouth of the river.

The dictionary says:
"Mouth: A natural opening, as the part of a stream or river that empties into a larger body of water or the entrance to a harbor, canyon, valley, or cave."

(1) Delta.

Second paragraph.
First hit from search "where a river flows into a larger body of water"

(2) Alluvial.
