a layboard to a roofing chippy relates to a roof forming the base generally for laying lead flashing and channels on but i don't think this is what your asking so sorry cant help

I'm not too sure what you mean , however I think you mean splitting the plank down the natural grain. In the past I have started by sawing partly down the grain to get a start and then pulled the two sawn pieces apart with my hands, and it worked fine. I made an "antique" back door from the garden to a passageway.It looked fab.

You need to be much more specific about what you need.

A lay board is normally just butted.

Do you mean the cuts to the common rafter, hip rafter or cripple rafter?
