I was told that there is a battery on the mother board that needs to be replaced. Is this true?

Your cmos battery is dead on the motherboard. Open the case and you will see a disc shaped battery the size of a dime or nickel. Remove it and replace the battery with the same type. Make sure you unplug the PC before you do this.

Sounds like the mother board battery is dead. It will probably be a flat round disk (hearing aid) type

Your battery is dead or dying. You can change it yourself.
