The most humane way to kill a fish is oil of cloves. It acts as an anesthetic to fish. 8-10 drops in a small container of water with the fish in it is sufficient to knock out a fish. Many people use this method if minor surgery is required or a topical antibiotic is to be administered. If you leave the fish in it too long, it kills it.

Never ever flush a fish, there is not enough water down there to sustain a fish. Just a lot of watery crap. What a way to die, gasping for air in a pile of sh*t.

Freezing is not a good option either, fish do not go to sleep due to hypothermia like warm blooded creatures. They are aware of the slow expanding and exploding of their cells due to the freezing of the water and themselves.

Put them to sleep with oil of cloves, that is painless and the most humane.

Using a carbonated beverage is the most convenient and painless method. The fish just go to sleep in the same way car fumes funneled back into a car will cause death in people. For maximum comfort warm the fizzy liquid to the temperature of the aquarium water. Flushing fish before death sounds like a nice way to go, but the chlorine from your water will burn the gills.

Sorry I have not heard of that.
I would take a quart pitcher and put it nearly one half full of water and add a good bit of ice. Stir this until you figure it is very very cold. Then put the fish down into the water. Let it sit for a few mins.

its not ,put the fish in a bag of water and put it in the freezer.the sudden drop in temp seems to induce a hibernation state, and after sleep death soon follows.
please do not flush your ailing fish it will not live through the proses, but any foreign bacteria or viruses could.
and definitely do not release it into the wild,as it could very likely out compete the native fish, either by eating eggs,Frye,or larger foods.

Toilet bowl. I'm not trying to be smart just practical. You would actually go to the trouble to buying alkaselzer if you had to? Just wondering because it seems an awful lot of trouble to go to for a fish.

Although I have never tried it I have heard that putting them in a freezer is the most humane way.

It is a pain reliever. So they die a PAINLESS death in its proximity.
