This is Yahoo Answers, not Yahoo essays. When answering a question shouldn't people keep it simple. You don't need to be writing a 3 page essay.

I think most long answers are just cut'n paste website info. Never pick a long answer as best answer and maybe they'll learn.

The answer's length really depends on the question. As someone else has already pointed out, some of these questions require more than a simple yes or no, or just a sentence or two simply because they are asking a deep complex question.

Besides, if the asker did not want his or her question answered then they should not have asked it on this site.

I write a little too much but not when people right those huge essays. My answers are about a paragraph if I get into it. Once or twice it's been a really long one.

Sometimes people do ask for essays, you know ;) After all, if you don't feel like reading lengthy writings - you don't have to, so there's not a problem really.

'Thanks for the points' is short and simple, expresses opinion and attitude, yet is hardly a desirable answer...

Depends on the question, some answers really do require more thought..Not all answers that are truly good answers can be captured in a few words or less...but for the most part I agree.
More so with longgggggggg winding questions that make no sense..lol

I agree somewhat. Sometimes a longer answer awards you ten points with more in depth and thorough than 10 points in a simple answer. Maybe that's what they look for in the answer. Sometimes it's easier to give a dictionary's definition for a word than your own.

Don't like the essays? Go somewhere where short and simple works. There are complex issues that are discussed here. Perhaps you should move to the yes or no section.

That depends on the question. Some need explainations. Others require nothing more than a yes or no.

Depends on the question. You ask me about how to cope with death, you'll get more than a blurb. If it's surface level crap like who will win the World Series. That's easy. The Yankees.
