is it necessary that your address be on your resume. and that your ssn be on paper applications lying who knows where. what can be left out on a resume?

but really, when you turn down or your not offered the job how do you know the information is being disposed of properly. I have worked in a place where the job applications were left at reach to anyone, even customers.

I trust no one!!

i know a resume does not need to have your ssn on it, but PAPER APPLICATIONS do ask for it. I never fil in mine on paper applications. i just don't think it makes sense unless you will actually be hired because they file your app away once hired.

I usually put my first and last name city state and my cellular phone number!

When I am called in for a interview then I put my information on their application.

You are doing right by not trusting anyone.

It looks more professional if you do have your address on the resume, however, you are not required to put your SSN on it. As an employer, I keep resumes on file, with the date received stamped in the front. If I need to hire a new person, I usually take the file out and proceed down the list. If it is outdated or the potential employee has found a job, I dispose of the resumes with a paper shredder. Most employers would be conscious of confidentiality and respect that the information contained on a resume is private and confidential.

You bring up good questions...

Does anyone "really" know that their private information is being destroyed or secured in a private place?

Most companies are bound by federal & state laws, but like you said - some places don't follow 'em or leave stuff laying around.

The best we can do is "hope" for the best!

Your address isn't as critical as a phone # or email, but you need to have some kind of contact info for the employer to reach you.

I never put my SSN on a resume. If they need it, I can give it to HR at the interview.
