You will need oven-cleaner spray, several sponges, rubber gloves (maybe 2 pairs), a pail or basin, a scrubber pad, and newspaper.
Remove any loose or liquid debris from the oven. Make sure you have pleanty of ventilation. Lay newspaper on the floor to catch drips, then spray oven cleaner starting with the least accessible areas first... the back and the top. Wait the appropriate amount of time given in the cleaner instructions.
Wipe the inside of the oven starting with the bottom and sides... the easiest to reach. Wipe from back to front in one slow firm stroke, then scrape off the good into your pail. Turn the sponge over and do another stroke next to the one you just did. Then reach for a second sponge. (or you can rinse one sponge repeatedly, but it makes the job take a lot longer.) Don't try to get it perfectly clean... no scrubbing just yet. Continue till you have removed all the oven cleaner and the dirt that it loosened.
While you do this... don't touch your face! It's tempting if you have an itch, but don't do it.
Now, if there are areas that look pretty dirty, try the scrubber. If the stuff comes off fairly easily, scrub it off. If not, just spray again and repeat the process. Sometimes if there is a big build-up, one application won't penetrate all the way.
Rinse all your sponges in cool water, and then wipe the residual film out of the oven. Keep the sponges clean with fresh water.
This is an unpleasant job, but if you have everything you need, it's not as bad as you might think.

If its self cleaning turn knob to right to lock oven door then turn oven nub to cleaning and the temp will automatically pop up usually 300 degrees for 2 hrs; if its not self cleaning then use Easy off oven spray spray generously set oven temp for 200 degrees and set timer for 10 t0 20 minutes and then with a damp clean cloth wipe off , reapply if nessacary.

There's no need to disconnect a gas oven; I've had gas ovens for years.
Use Easy Off. It works on a cold oven. Very good product.

You can disconnect it, spray it heavily with oven cleaner, let it set overnight and then load it into a truck and take it to the car wash. It needs to dry out over night before you try to relight the pilots. I have done this a few times when trying to recondition rental property and find it to be the easiest way to deal with a badly neglected appliance.

ahhhhh the snswer of course is gasoline spread librerally about the oven (watch the vapors) and as soon as there is an even film, ignite it. The resulting fireworks will eliminate any trace of dirt or scum......or oven for that matter. But do it and I trust you will forget all about that problem you are having with the oven now.
