Absolutely you can shorten your bunn's hair in summer - he'd probably appreciate it if his fur is very long. However, you have to be VERY careful, use small scissors, and be careful NEVER to cut his skin, as bunny skin is very sensitive and can be badly damaged if cut. Here's a few excellent articles to help you -

If you have an angora or other long haired rabbit, you can have its coat clipped short. Probably best to let someone experienced do it the first time, because rabbits usually don't like that kind of thing. I don't think it would be much of a problem, though. I wouldn't suggesting a short haired rabbit, though. If you are having problems with fur being everywhere, brushing its fur several times a day will really help.

If your problem is just shedding you can take it to a groomer and have them blow the coat out with a high powered blower. You will still see some shedding, but it really helps reduce it.
Rabbits have very delicate skin so I would worry too much about trying to cut their hair down. If the coat has been neglected or matted I would contact a professional groomer who is experienced with rabbits to do any trimming.

I have never heard of anyone shearing a rabbit unless it is a chinchilla or the other rabbits that are specially breeded for their coats.

Absolutely NOT.. The rabbit has its own natural hair molting system.. It(the rabbit) as well as other animals need their fur for the balance of moisture, etc on their skin

Don't do that. You will cause more harm than good. You just need to sit with him and spend some time and groom for a while. http://www.rabbit.org

i dont think i would suggest it, but if you want to its worth a try.. they might not like it so make sure you are being cautious to not hurt or cause harm to the bunny.
