I would say from this weekend, everyone else seems to have their seasonal gear out on display and if you can get more customers in your shop by having your stuff out now then good, more profit never goes amiss.

I think you should have it out by Halloween. That would give everyone time to shop but not too much where they are looking for it to be on a clearance table by Christmas Eve! My mother had a dress shoppe back in the late 60's early 70's. She put her stock out early and held back a few items for her special customers. That way, she could let the spouses know that they didn't have to worry about searching for the perfect gift, because she already had it at her shop! Worked every time!

Sadly I think that you could put out your Christmas stock right now and no one would bat an eyelid.
As a child I remember the excitement of Christmas, but in those days (I am 38) Christmas really only began on the 1st of December.....so for a child 24 more days is within sight....today I find it very hard to explain to my two young children that despite Christmas trees being up in October, Christmas is still a very long way away.

Get it out as soon as you can, the beginning of October is fine. The weather is changing. People look and then come back for things they've seen. There will always be people that complain. If people ask questions, simply explain that if the merchandise is displayed early, it gives them time to think about what might interest them.
