I know! I loved The X-Files and I have been waiting for this movie for a long time now. As you know, everyone was contractually obligated to do the film. (Otherwise, I'm sure Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny want to move on...)

According to comingsoon.net:
Frank Spotnitz Writing The X-Files 2
Source: SCI FI Wire May 19, 2006

Frank Spotnitz tells SCI FI Wire that he has signed on to help write The X-Files 2.

"There's still a very good chance that we will all do another 'X-Files' movie," Spotnitz said. Spotnitz was an executive producer on the show, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Another film is expected to get underway once series creator Chris Carter and Fox settle legal matters. Spotnitz says Duchovny, Anderson and himself have deals in place.

The script has not been written, but the idea is in place. "We're not going into the mythology [in the sequel]," Spotnitz added, saying it will be more like a stand-alone episode. "Of course, we will catch up with the characters and what is going on in their lives, but it's not about the alien conspiracy. It's not about that."

It's still being written/developed. I'm not sure if everyone is for sure signed on, but I do know that it's not supposed to be a part of the huge story arch and alien mythology that plagued the last few seasons. It's going to be a standalone episode, which makes me wonder how well it would work...

As a side note, the X-Files could have kept going if they'd just had embraced Dogget & Reyes as the "next generation" of sorts for the X-Files instead of attempting to keep Mulder and Scully despite their desire to move on during that terribly convoluted last season.

They are working around everyones schedules.

You can't just drop everything to do a film on the X-Files it takes time and money to get everyone together.

Trust me it will happen
