I always put my kids on top of the comforter. you can use your crib bumper once your baby is a bit older when they can roll over well on there own.
To those of you who answered and don't know why she would need to take the bumper pads out. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends removing it as it is found to cause suffication in infants who may snuggle up agianst it and can roll over to get away from it.

the crib set is for 1.to protect the baby and 2.no she cannot just sleep w/the comforter because what if she wakes up in the middle of the night and she is crawling around under the cover and all of a sudden you dont hear her so you go to check on her and shes under the cover and had smuthered herself?? a baby is not supposed to have a blanket, or a stuffed toy until they can at least walk/talk

I say leave the bumber in. I didn't have one at first and it wasn't a problem but then as he got older (about 4 months) he started to move around a lot in his sleep and would get his little legs and arms stuck between the rails and would scoot up and bump his head. All of this would wake him up. Add a bumber and the problem was solved! As for the comforter, it is just so the set looks nice, it all goes together. I also have my little guy sleep on top of the comforter with warm pj's and a little blanket.

The bumper is used so that they don't bump into the sides of the hard wooden crib. And as for comforter, blankets, etc, I always laid my daughter ON TOP of her comforter. (Doctors recommend not covering up a baby while sleeping to reduce risk of suffocation. Just dress your baby warmly enough for bed!)

The bumper may be OK. I left mines on with my child. Just make sure all the stings are on the outside. But do what you are comfortable with. and the comforter, it depends on you, what your comfortable with.

you should have at least two bumper sets so when on is being washed there is still one on the crib and yes it is needed so your child is safe if you feel you dont need it then you dont care about your childs safety
