My brother in law is turning 40 and we're throwing him a surprise bday party. Any ideas for party favors?

I would go back to 1966 (the year I assume he was born) and find a bunch of items that were "big" then... take his picture and print them off on the computer and make labels or advertisements for that time period that would go with them.... Such as - a candy bar that was a big ticket item in 1966... have his face plastered ALL OVER THE STUFF!
Or, if you have access to a CD burner... burn a bunch of songs from that time that you could give out. They are in-expensive and people really get a kick out of those memorable items!
Other ideas would be baggies of little tokens that are CURRENTLY your B-I-L's favorites... Anything inexpensive that he likes will be great treats for all of your friends!

If there was a place he's vacationed and really loved maybe something representative of it. Or if he has a hobby or sports team he really likes.
Examples: Chocolate poker chips or decks of cards for Vegas, Flower Leis for Hawaii, Baseballs, etc.
You could even make it the theme of the party if you wanted.

PS You can get virtually anything screen printed...Maybe pick something and have in screened with "Joe's 40th Birthday" or whatever so it becomes more of a keepsake.

the gag gifts are really in piss- poor taste.... they really are....don't let others get them. They can backfire.. And can the over- the- hill crap too. Younger ppl claim the gag gifts/ gravestone thing is funny. Those of us who are nearing the big four - oh, don't think it is so funny. It just shows how insincere,rude,ignorant some ppl can be. For my 40th, no one better get me any of that stuff, they will be very rudely shown the door and the two flights of stairs leading from it! ben -gay,denture,diarreah stuff is personal hygeine stuff that others don't need to be seeing anyway.

Sometimes 40 year old men need to shake it up a bit. Try having a sexy party.
People can come to the party anonymously with masks or whatever, and pair off and do their own thing in other rooms.

have like and 80s-90s theme. get a disco ball and some platform shoes, a lava lamp, anything old. borrow someones record player. hope i helped! bye!
