I think the olympics is a great opportunity for this country. With the ever growing obesity problem that this world is facing what better way to promote healthy living. There will be a lot of job opportunities and hopefully run properly there will be a lot of income which can then be spent on health promotion so helping to reduce obesity, heart disease some cancers and other high risk illness and reducing the strain on the NHS.

Olympics are not said to be just a sports competition.Olympics are said to be the great celebration of humanity. With Olympics we celebrate the fact that we can live together as nations. In ancient Greece when the Olympics started, there were ceasefire for all of the wars during the Games.Nowadays we have the Games to see that humans can live peacefully

Who said that's a better use?
Much of it is wasted on ridiculous cosmetic surgery, treating fat people who won't stop eating even though they have obesity related illnesses, smokers who have cancer and don't stop, smoking, alcoholics with cirrhosis of the liver or diabetes and yet still they drink!
Sport at least encourages a healthier way of living...especially when done at the grass roots level...and every country that has sporting success or highlights, sees an increased participation in sports.
These are facts my dear, not just some knee jerk reaction to an idea I don't like.

I totally agree money would make huge difference to NHS, but if we hadnt got the games, NHS wouldnt have got extra money

Hmm. I think it's because it will provide a chance for all the major underworld moneymen to fleece the U.K. whilst entertaining they're friends at sports day

If we are smart about it we should be able to make a profit out of it - as did Los Angles.
As for how to do that - ask Mr. Peter. Uberoth.
