I think they are the coolest things ever. Right now i'm reading Interview With the Vampire, it's pretty good. Have ever read Thicker than Water? Also have seen any good Vampire movies?

I love vampires, first off. I can't get enough of them, I'm always rp-ing as one.. and yeah.

The Chronicles is always your best bet if you like domesticated vampires that walk among the living and have long, intensive conversations.

If you like more sinister vampires with a chase halfway around the world, go with Bram Stoker's Dracula. A classic.

Then, if you just want a collected assortment of vampire stories, I'm currently reading this book named Vampires. It's a collection of short stories about (duh!) vampires.

But seriously, if you really like vampires, Anne Rice + Chronicles = happiness.

I haven't read Thicker than Water, however, and I'll be sure to check that out.

And DO NOT watch Queen of the Damned. I'm so pissed at that movie and the director because it's nothing like Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned at all. Interview was decent if you'd like to see the movie. But by far, Bram Stoker's Dracula was the best for me. There's also Underworld I & II if you're interested.. the lycans are better in that movie however. And there's always Dracula 2000.. I heard that it was good, but haven't watched it.

Hope I helped!

Oh my god, a question that I may actually have an answer to, yay!
I love the idea of vampires and everything about them, although a lot of things totally contradict each other which is totally annoying but what can I say, if only vampires were real then there would be no confusion, but of course (more to the pity) they're not, damn it!
As for what are the best books to read, Anne Rice's vampire chronicles are pretty cool aren't they? I love queen of the damned (the book that is, the film although it was ok, was a bit of a let down for me personally). And the best film ever is "shadow of the vampire" not a remake of but is based on "Nosferatu" and i love it to death. Thanks for listening to (well watching) me ramble on, but I had to get it out of my system, ok now that's over with, go read/watch what i just recommended!
P.S - I almost forgot, I read the vampire diaries" when i was younger and loved them, well worth a quick look, although not really that fixated in vampyrism really.

ohh... what's that one novel... by Kim something...

OH! It's called Anno Dracula. It is especially good if you know about the old nineteenth century vampires in fiction, like Varny the Vampyre. It also, of course, is a reworking of Bram Stoker's Dracula (which I haven't read, but I've seen enough screen versions to piece it together).

My fave vampyr movies are all older ones:

My favourite screen Dracula (apart from Bela Lugosi) is Richard Roxburgh in Van Helsing. It is a silly movie, but it looks GREAT, it is gorgeous gothic art and pays homage to the old 30's horror movies in grand style.

Check out The Hunger, that's a very cool movie which features the cult band Bauhaus playing at the beginning, and the beautiful Catherine Deneuve.

The relatively low-budget Near Dark is good, a kind of bloody-vampire-goes-west thing, done by a woman director. It shows the vampire in an American style, rather than the aristocratic-European-Dracula type of thing. The Lost Boys is good Americana too, and funny as well as creepy.

There is also a mexican one, Cronos, that is supposed to be excellent but I haven't seen it.

I recommend the Anita Blake Series by Laurell k Hamilton.

"Anita Blake is an Animator and Vampire Slayer. Actually, she is a monster slayer. Though sometimes the monsters are human and even Anita is not sure she is not one of them.

Anita lives in a world very similar to our own. The difference: things that go bump in the night are real. Vampires, magic, zombies, werewolves, shapeshifters all exist and are active. Owning businesses, having love lives and living or unliving their day to day existence"

LJ Smith - The Vampire Diaries (a series)

They are young adult, but still pretty fun to read.

Linda Lael Miller also has some romance type ones that are good.

read the vampire: the masquerade and the new edition called vampire: the requiem (much better information in the masquerade and dark times). This comprends a lot of research in books such as nosferatu and dracula. Published by white wolf
