"I make black records. I write records like I speak, and I don't try to change my songs so everyone else likes them " Was this racist?

Her album sales have dropped by 70%...I don't see what the big deal is by her quote...maybe because I'm black....what do you all think?

Nope not at all. It's not a racist comment it is what it is. I didn't see anything racist in it. She just said she write like she speak so if people took that the wrong way then they were just looking for something negative to say. I am not a Beyonce fan but I think her sales dropped so much because the album was a dud this time.

I don't think her quote is racist.

Foo Fighters or Nirvana would say the same thing if anyone bothered to ask them ...

Yet it's interesting b/c if she makes "black records" and "speaks" [black], why does she keep getting whiter & whiter...the hip hugging blond weave, the lightening skin tone etc. Very curious...

I think her sales have dropped b/c the public is a bit Beyonced-out. (No offense!) I also don't think it's her best album....but, no worries, she be back!

Records are black or at least most are. Maybe that's also her problem. She should be making CDs and not records.

I doubt she remembered that most of her customers are not black. If she says her albums are black and the sales go down 70%, does that mean she is saying that the "black experience" doesn't sell?

I dont think she is a racist. Her quote was taken out of proportion because she was just saying that she wont change the her music is just to make people like it. Thats what I believe she was trying to get across to everyone.

If I would have known that before I bought her CD, I wouldn't have bought it! I'm Hispanic and I feel that was not good judgment on her part. She needs to realize not all of her fans are "black" people. Yeah she can make music how ever she wants, but by saying" I make black records" she's automatically pushing away her other fans of another race. Lets say you were another race, and a fan of hers how would you feel? You might not feel it racist because your the same race.

I can tell you it wasn't a smart business decision to shoot her mouth off like that. If she's willing to stand by her statement and make her race more important than her music, power to her but I don't want to hear any whining about record sales from her either.
I wouldn't say it was racist only because she made no derogatory comments regarding other people, however this comment was racially motivated, if not racially superior. It's a shame she had to make it about the color of her skin.

Im surprised actually to hear that she said something like that I dont think it makes her racist just maybe more human how many times have we all said something that is taken out of context or even something we regret saying . Saying that she makes black records doesnt offend me anymore then a hispanic artist saying they make spanish/latin records . Give her a break people.

First of all, you can't take a question out of proportion, but instead you can take it out of context.

I don't think it was taken out of context. Who's to say that there is a direct correlation between that comment and declining record sales. It's like saying Oprah's comment about beef caused sales to decline.... I see her comment more about description and identity. She's proud of herself, her identity, and her music. Good for her for being honest...

She might as well be racist to the white , they (whites) have always been racist to us black you girl Beyonce don't care if they don't buy the album you still get sales.

However I think it's the songs on the album and not her quote. but who cares I sure don't.
