would it be easier to replace the whole thing or the section that is broken

it's dangerous to fix a line because of the pressure involved in the liquid. Try getting an old one on a junker or getting a similar one or making the tube (very difficult work for me but maybe you have the knowledge). For instructions, try the repair manual or look in yahoo for bmw forums. One good site for parts i used to use was bavarian autosports. Also replacing the section could be dangerous because the unions in the sections must be sufficients to handle the pressure.

Is it a rubber line to a caliper? Easy to fix and cheap. Try allgermanparts.com less then $20.00. The line just unscrews with a 12 or 13 mm wrench. Only trick is you have to bleed the brakes when your done to get the air out of the system.

replace the whole thing. And let a real mechanic do it for warranty
