I'm looking to join a new bank and was wondering if there was a catch to their free checking account and free checks for life. Can you tell me any other pros or cons with them?

We use WAMU, and we actually decided to pay the extra $5 a month for the accidental death coverage (good life insurance for a young healthy couple like my husband and I).

I'd say the catch is that once your in, you'll think they're the ones to go to for loans - don't, their rates are through the roof. They're great for checking and savings accounts, but get your loans and other financial services through a local credit union.

I have a checking acct. with them for about a year. The branch is in a grocery store , and is open longer hours. They gave me a really nice set of luggage, it was a promotional, don't expect it again.
They are legit. Free checking.
I keep different type accts in several banks. If an acct gets screwed up, just let it cool off for a while.

Yes! I love WaMu....I have been with them over a year and there does not seem to be a catch...The only bad part is the free checks are singles and I like doubles...

when it comes to getting approvals for a loan they are the greatest. my parents tried 2 get a loan from bank of america and it took them almost 6 months. then my mom fianally switched banks and WaMu got them the loan on 2 weeks, go with WaMu.

I have heard that it is only $1 to open an account and you get a debit card--the debit card is a little slow in coming in the mail. also you earn interest!
