What I mean is, no matter who it is, my friend, my best friend, my mom, my dad, my sister, cousin, etc - I feel like I have to be the person they like the most. I need that approval and attention. It's like...of course I know I'm not the most important thing in everyone's lives but like..I can't explain it. Is it some sort of insecurity? Am I just selfish? What is it? P.S. I'm the youngest of 5 children. not sure if that has anything to do with it.

i believe you just need attention to feel wanted. being the youngest, you probably were cared for the most and had a lot of attention.. and youre just feeling that you still need to be wanted in that way. being an attention-wanter is somewhat of an insecurity.

I don't think it has anything to do with you being selfish at all. Being the youngest or oldest of any amount of children is a lot to deal with . You problem may be that you fear being overlooked or forgotten about and you don't want to be left alone. You could try sparking up some random conversations to see where you stand with other.

I feel the same way, although I'm the oldest of 3. I really think it's just that the other siblings constantly get attention. Are your older siblings getting attention for succeeding? If you want to be special, do something unique and reach for the stars. If you succeed, people will think, "Wow, she's so special."
Also, you need to look at it through others' perspective. Do people often say, "She's just dying for attention."? If so, maybe you need to do something for others and make them feel special. You'll find that these simple acts of kindness will make you feel special too!
Best of luck!

I don't think that there's anything wrong wanting to be special...or the most special... But if you don't recieve the attention that you are looking for you could hurt your self... You should make your self special and feel good about you, this way your not looking for it from everyone else. You are the only one in control of your happyness, by your choices you make.

Usually this stems from having a missing parent. You named both, but didn't say if they were always working, more into their own lives then yours or if they were your actual biological parents.
