I have a good handle on the benefits of fresh fruit and vegetable juices, however I've heard conflicting arguments related to giving them to my 16 month old son. Any links to good related resources would be greatly appreciated!

I would think a 16 month old should handle some just fine. Don't overload him though or you'll get a blowout!!! Do be very carefull about what you put in the juicer. No fresh lettuce or spinach right now because of e. coli contamination. Do use fresh apples, pears, carrots, blueberries, yogurt. Thsese are all delicious and good for the system. YUM!

I think so. I know that most juices are too acidic for infants, but I don't believe 16 months old is really infancy. Maybe just give him a little bit at a time. I think if it bothers him, he'll end up with diaper rash and you'll know to stop for awhile.

Just remember, things you make at home aren't pasturized and you run the risk of food-borne illnesses such as salmonella and E. Coli. Also, the juices could be too strong unlesss diluted. Be especially careful for homemade apple juice on both counts.

A sixteen month old's digestion is essentially that of an adult. If he likes the juice, go right ahead. Only for the younger than a year age range would there be any concern.

I never could get mine to drink any kind of juice. She is eight and still it is either milk or water only.

I dunno. It was safe years ago when my kids were babies but now with the recent scare of e coli infected produce ( carrots included!) and some fruits (apples) I probably wouldn't do it for a while. Childrens immune systems aren't as strong as ours when it comes to defense against foreign substances.Lightly steamed broccoli might be ok then puree in a blender.Use it as a soup rather than a juice. As long as it's not completely raw, it might be ok.I'd even gently cook some sliced apples or pears and puree them for a fruit.

I give fresh juices to my kids all the time even my infant, i don't think it harms them in any way if it is to strong just add water

It's okay, but introduce new foods slowly and only in small amounts at a time. Also keep children's benadryl nearby. Infants are allergic to a lot of substances, so you should proceed with a little caution.

Consult a doctor. Most will tell you to feed the baby infant juice to your child.

his system is developed enough...but still sensitive...be sure to dilute the juices...stick to fruit....vegetables are a bit too potent...and dont taste as good to the palate of a child.

but for sure...dilute!
