No, I didn't feel insulted, - she did a fine job. But it did make me wonder why they chose to select an American actress when we have so many talented ones of our own. I wondered the same thing about Sliding Doors with Gwyneth Paltrow.

I loved the book so much - and I was so disappointed to hear that Renee Z was going to be playing Bridget. Thing is - it worked. Renee was Bridget. Completely and utterly. As soon as you start watching the film - you forget that she's American. She's a great actress and was so convincing - and that's the key, isn't it?

No. She did an excellent job, I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Bridget.

Not the only UK/American swap.....in the 1930s when Gone With The Wind was released, Vivien Leigh played Scarlet O'Hara. She was British, but played a character who was American and Southern at that....Renee Zellwegger is Texan....but both did a good job

I did wonder, and, yeah, I agree with the same person who said about Sliding Doors and Paltrow. Anyhow, it doesn't bother me at all that they cast an American actress... I thought she did a good job, but I still don't like the film too much.

Well, I do. It's OK.

(And I don't think Hugh Laurie can do a very good American accent, and I'm British).

No not at all, the accent was really very good. It is annoying the way they drop American actors into British films in order to make them sell in USA, I can think of a few where they really struggled with the accent, e.g. Stephen Dorf as thee 5th Beatle in Backbeat and Dick Van Dyke's laughable cockney accent in Mary Poppins.

Why would any one feel insulted - the only possible insult would be to any ones intelligence if the acting and accent was really bad - like Sean Connery's broad Scottish/Russian Accent in Hunt for Red October the only reason is works is well its Sean Connery isn't it - something Dick Van Dyke could never compare to.

The fact that she doesn't even sound lkie a Brit, and the fact that the film is crap. yeah i guess I could get insulted. Most likely because the film is crap. Natalie Portman plays an English woman in V for Vendetta now she's brilliant

ni not at all, they should go for the person best for the job..however in the devil wears prada i was suprised to see they had changed the hard british ***** editor mirander into an american...not because of her being american as she is a fantastic actress but half the point of the book is that andrea cant understand her accent, it doesnt quite work if they both have the same one!

Who does care about Bridget Jones?

certain studios still maintain the fashion of having actors and actresses on contract to fulfill ex amount of films per year, this causes these companies to cast one of their stars in an "alien" type role, Mel Gibson-Zelwegger, the list goes on, but thats how its done, the actor/actress has to work according to their contract, and the film companies have to fulfill their contracts to give their stars a certain amount of work. What worse role than Mel Gibson playing a Scotsman, especially one of my ancestors. He can just about play an American !!, and Zelwegger, her come to bed eyes should be just that, she should just stay asleep.
