Businesses can't sell "unhealthy merchandise to schools", restaurant health officials are thinking of enforcing "no serving trans fat in restaurants", children aren't supposed to bring unhealthy such as candy snacks to school, the whole thing with no 'gays', newer travel regulations and much more. What's gonna happen next, WWIII? I mean, when this country started out, it was supposed to allow almost total freedom; is that being flushed down the drain by our current government?

I mean, Berlin started with small things like this, and ended up with economic, immigration, and many other troubles!!! What's happening to the US? And i even heard unmarried peoples can be tried in court for living together. Last time I checked, I was living in an apartment at college with some friends. Now we can't live with who we choose?

Business like Capri Sun, Coke, etc can no longer sign contracts to sell at school as soon as the current contract runs out!

I do not think USA is becoming communist. I believe freedom still exists now, but with increased restrictions due to fear.
As regards for issues with restriction on food for school, I would guess that it is calculated movement of government to set somewhat pace on children to eat healthy in hope of perhaps cutting down spending on health care and etc. in future.

As for the issues with same sex marriage and etc., are perhaps somewhat fundamentalistic christian government approach. Most christian people would view the same sex marriage as not valid in my opinion. I believe that USA always has been fundamentalistic christian nation due to most of ideal approach has been somewhat following moral code of the bible in comparison to usage of any other religion. Of course constitution and etc. try to separate the religion and state. However looking at the history, most of time christianity and government(state) is not really far apart.

As for WWIII, I believe we are currently in one. Terrorists/Insurgents are pretty much everywhere in the world and whole world is influenced by it. I guess key factor is the fear. Of course I can understand why terrorists being terrorists because with the limited technology and limitation they have they must have to fight us back in non-conventional way.(We have done similar non-conventional back in Colonial era against Britain).

I believe that USA is still a nation of freedom because we can still be able to voice on our government's job. Handling the terrorist is very hard job for the government. There are no other sure way to do so without stepping over human rights. I am not totally agree with our government's handling, but not disagree either since some decisions are have to be made boldly. Typically government is faced either yes or no approach.., No maybes.

That question suggests a complete misunderstanding of communism (which is understandable because the only examples we've seen are the Soviet Union, China, and Cuba). But Communism is the furthest you can get from what America is threatening to become. Communism is supposed to be a complete lack of government, and more just the workers helping each other to the best of their ability.

We are headed for Facism (which is what the Soviet Union, China, and Cuba really are), where everything is controlled by a single leader (or in the case we are headed to, two leaders--Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld--working behind a figurehead--George Bush). But yes, we are headed for a complete lack of freedom and very soon. Read the book 1984 and see if you don't see the beginning of the same situation.

If you had children, you wouldn't want them eating the stuff Ralston-Purina wouldn't even package for dogs and cats (i.e., the stuff I ate in public schools in the 70's/80's).

If you look at your health insurance bill, you'd DEMAND that all, um, weight-challenged individuals have their mouths stitched or at least not be served stuff that'll put 'em in the hospital after their visit to the Waffle House tonight.

If you watched TV, for more than 30 seconds, you're going to be exposed to some reference to homosexuality, whether it's the character, the host, the tabloid coverage, whatever it is, TV's gone gay big time (Will and Grace, Queer Eye, Queer As Folk, Six Feet Under, etc etc). TV is written by, managed by and watched by homosexuals in numbers disproportionate to the rest of the 'communist' society. There is no ban on gays in America, for whatever it's worth.

When we DIDN'T have strict travel regulations, what DID we have? PLANES INTO BUILDINGS. So waiting a bit longer before you start your vacation (what's the rush) or your business trip (again, what's the rush) is worth it, if it keeps undesirable or just pain-in-the-azz passengers off the plane.

WW3 is happening, in case you've been occupied with American 'Idle', your overheated iPod or the 10,000th story on Lindsay Lohan's driving, drinking or dating skills. We are being attacked on more fronts today than in WW2, and we're doing a fine job of slowly but surely forcing people and nations that had heretofore been ignored or exploited by the rest of the world, to be responsible and accountable global citizens and abandon both totalitarianism and terrorism.

Government does not institute communism so much as the populace accepts it. If you want examples of communism, I'd refer you to the pork barrel crap the Democrats are constantly selling to the impoverished voter bloc to keep them in the fold. There isn't a dollar of income that will be left untaxed if the Democrats are allowed to have free reign. Work and God are despised, free healthcare and hedonism are the new utopia, and you are complaining about leaving your hair gel at home when you fly to see your grandmother once a decade.

Step slowly off the high-horse and exercise your dissent at the voting booth, because you sure can't articulate it here.

We have allowed this to happen for years. I believe that the cause of this was the lefts control of the media for the last forty years. I believe that it is changing because right minded people have media outlets to express their opinions (Fox News, Internet, talk radio).

Despite the fact that not happy with the Republicans on spending and the border I strongly encourage Republicans to come to the polls in November. If they do not the Democrats will reinstate the fairness doctrine and silence our voices. We will no longer be able to counter the Democrats and keep the Republicans feet to the fire.

Look up your isms before sounding off. What makes you think you ever had any freedom or rights. What is this about WWII? It was to advance the industrial revolution to Europe and Japan is what it was about, Economics, not rights. Very noble of you but rather unreal.

Our current government is simply following in the footsteps of people like FDR and LBJ. Johnson wanted to shoot demonstrators. Like it or not, I know, I was there. Also, if it is so bad for you, get a passport and move out.

Its about $$$. Parents are probably threatening to sue schools for the cuisine . Obesity causes health problems that insurance companies don't want to pay for. Resturants are liable for the food that they serve. Some people have a problem with gays . People believe that homosexuality spreads disease, disease cost insurance companies $$$$$. There is no such thing as total freedom , someone has to be held accountable or there will be total chaos.

Don't many people wish they had your concerns, and nothing else to worry about.
Not the fact that there is no proper healthcare for them and their children,
no public transport worth talking about in most places,
an education system that actually sends people into working life not knowing things like spelling and basic numeracy,
no system of social security that really keeps children out of poverty....
But that would really make you into a Communist state in your view.

The liberals are all avowed Socialists and are leading the country in that direction.

The things you mention have given us all a healthier life and longevity.

This is not our current government. It's been decaying for at least the last 40 years.

Your definition of freedom is so shallow. Growup!
