My 9 month old stays with my mom while I go to work. When I come home, she is happy to see me, but does not want to leave my mom's side. She prefers her over me which is understandable because she stays with her all day, but I have friends who's kids stay with grandparents and this doesn't seem to be the case with them. I am very loving with my daughter. I play with her a lot and make sure she is always entertained. What do you think is the problem?

I just wanted to clarify that of course I feed her, bathe her, rock her to sleep, hold her. The only reason I said that I play with her a lot and try to keep her entertained is because this is why it seems she prefers my mother over me. My mother is always playing with her and entertaining her and making her laugh.

I would say she acts this way simply because she spends more time with G-ma. It's familiar.
Try making things the same at your home as at G-ma's. Sing the same songs, or do the same things...
It's impossible to say for certainty that this would work, but that would be my guess.

I'd also ask her pediatrician the next time you see him. If she hasn't grown out of it by then.

All babies think grandma is god! lol Mine are the same and there 7 and 4 years old.Grandma can spoil and give them a ton of affection as they can give the babie back to the mom when there tired of it. When I was a baby,my grandma was the only one who could get me to sleep as my mom was skinny and bony and grandma was was fat and huggy! As your baby grows, you will see that in her eyes.. Mommy is God...until she see's grandma. haha just know that your mother treated you the same and you will do the same with your babies baby in the long run. Don't be jealous. It's a grandma thing.

Of course she is going to prefer the one who cares for her all day, it's only natural. When she gets older she'll prefer you because she'll understand that you're just at work but for right now (being only 9 months old) she likes what she knows and what she knows is grandma.

grandmoms spoil children and your mom is probally more relaxed then you are children sense tension so she will prefer the less tense person so just relax and when your mom is playing with her and your there join the fun don't make a deal of it. My kids throw me out of there mommoms house when i drop them off for a weekend...and hate to come home but hey i like going to moms too....

Its OK your child loves you. Its that they tend to be more attach to the one they see the most. My son does that with his father. He likes to play with him but prefer me over him. But some times its the opposite. Give her time she knows who her mother is.

The problem is that your mother spends more time with her than you do, so she's more used to her than she is with you. You may play with her a lot, but infants need more than that. Most infants (of any species) bond with the person who nurses them, feeds them, etc. You need to hold her - babies need skin-to-skin contact in order for their little brains to development. You need to hold her in your arms, talk to her (like a human being), sing to her, feed her, etc.

Your baby loves you and knows your her mother. But, your mother is her main caretaker. Your daughter will outgrow that.
If its of any consolation, my first son called my mom, mom and me by my first name. I didnt mind , he outgrew it. Now he calls me mom. Dont compare your child to to others. She is her own self and she will be different. Just love her , love her very much.

peace and love your way.
