We had new buildings for our school last year. The head recalled the history of the school and described the difficulties that the children had to overcome working in the recent outdated conditions. They had achieved well despite the environment not because of it. Then he explained how the new buildings would benefit the children and the school community and how the new facilities would help the wider village community. Then the children celebrated with songs and maypole dancing for the invited guests (parents, vicars, villagers and people who had helped to provide the buildings etc) and then we had a picnic. Hope this gives you some ideas!

Yes! I would say the purpose of religion is to improve our own understanding of life and self. It should not be a tool for self glory or finding weakness in others.
