Anyone agree with me that our so called representatives specifically our government is gradually but surely, surpressing quite vehemently and with dilliberate intent our right to disagree with and our right to even peaceably oppose those within the administration the prescribed doctine to which they would have us believe to be the only path, also that any colour government would not change this because already they have been given so much power in statue already and would not relinquish such power so as to rule over us and not because of us.

You know you are going to go over many heads with this question. I get what you are saying and believe it to be true. Our liberties in general over the past six years are slowly fading. Of course, you will get the defenders of our losses because we were attacked. It is amazing how that attack boosted the powers of the executive branch completely and gave us the liberty to go into any country we want in order to "democratize" it.

They can only control those who give them that right. While I have no wish to go on marches (on whatever subject) I know that if ever I do wish to protest strongly, there is no one that can stop me. Yes, I agree that they have assumed too much power but even they realise it is only an assumption. Given that we had the Poll Tax riots which led to a change of government policy under a right wing Prime Minister, I think that even self-serving politicians no that there are limits.

What's happend in the UK (not sure about the US) is that the government of the day has won landslide victories and the opposing parties have been very week (not just in power, but also in argument). So you don't have very good checks on democracy. So the government just gives itself more powers and becomes more controlling.

Not entirely. I believe that they do not care because you cannot affect them one way or the other. IF you had large donations of either cash or voting blocks to be delivered then they would listen. Remember, we live in a Republic, according to Franklin. We elect people to vote for us and make our rules. We do not live in a Democracy, none truly exist in the modern world. My representative has said that we do not know what he knows therefore he will vote the way he wants if we like it or not. But there are enough party loyal voters, on each side to keep people like him elected for 40 year stretches.

I don't think its neccessarily acceptance. I think that the current US administration has very skillfully played on the citizenry's fears for their own security. They have played the fear card over and over and over again and then got away wit raping the constitution by claims that those who oppose them are on the side of the terrorists or unpatriotic.

Remember the "Free-Speech Zones" during the '04 Republican convention?

They've turned Americans on eachother. I'm young still but i know i've never seen this country so devided. No matter what side you are left or right, us arguing means things arent getting done. Soldiers are dying, and we're arguing over who to blame for 9/11, when barely no one mentions that nothing substantially has been done to prevent another one.

Step away from the free throught and put your hands up!

The world's governments will not be happy until we are all mindless happy little bunnies chasing the carrots offered to us by the almighty powers in control.

Stop the world, I want to get off!

Blindly following authority.... just like the lemmings.

Those in power seek to retain power, and seek to prevent anyone from challenging that power. And that means keeping everyone docile and doing what they are told. Just like any other good little totalitarian regime.

it is a frightening time... thoe powers that be seem so intrenched, that it seems the battle against the growing power of government is going to be nearly imposible. this nexst election won't change that current. we need real change, and it can't come from washington
