There really aren't any other films that can compare with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy in the sword and sorcery genre.

But my second favorite would be Excalibur (1981), directed by John Boorman. The complete version of the film runs 140 minutes. It is a bit on the erotic side, but it is the best retelling of the King Arthur legend that I've seen.

Another film would be Dragonslayer (1981), directed by Matthew Robbins. The special effects have held up remarkably well, and the film has an
effectively dark tone.

I also enjoyed The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (2005), directed by Andrew Adamson.

Ther`s literally nothing like the Lord of the Rings... if youre looking for something like that in scope, battles and humanity, Braveheart would be a good option...

Lord of the Ring is unique. There is nothing like it I'm afraid..
Unless someone is making a film from Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy..
But you could try these old classics:

Willow

Legend
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089469/

And if you want to slip a bit to the SciFi scene..

Frank Herbert's Dune (a true Interstellar saga)

I hope this helps..

I think Willow was a great call. It's definately a classic, and I think a movie that is easily lost/forgotten with a lot of people... especially with the younger crowd.

Braveheart, though it's not a fantasy film. Watch it and see what I mean. It resembles that historical epic war genre. It's seriously a very touching and dramatic piece of filmmaking, but it's very action-orientated and very bloody, too.

One of my favourite films.
