Again the doo gooders and people who think they are above it all have come out in their droves to protect a religion which out rightly has major terrorist elements which are active in the world and they don't do a damn thing to condemn it as they are the "Peaceful" Muslims. What will happen the next time there is a major act of terrorism, which again will be in the name of Islam, They will all sit at home doing nothing or criticising the west blaming foreign policy. If these terrorist cells are a small bunch of useless fanatics, who by the way will never win but will die and go to hell with there goat, and are not supported by the majority of peaceful Muslims, which I would like to believe they are, GET UP AND PROVE YOURSELVES. How? Get up and march like you do when you feel persecuted and give the people you know who are responsible. Then we can have a joint society which to be honest, not even the tree huggers can disagree with this, we haven't!!!!

What exactly is Islam, I am not sure that we know, or indeed Muslims themselves. We know there are violent extremists professing Islam as their guidance. We know there are Muslims who promote a violent ideology and provide the environment in which these violent people are indoctrinated. There are a further group of Muslims who although doing nothing, support the extremists or at least do not condemn them. There are also a number of Muslims who condemn violent extremism and deny it is part of Islam although it may be difficult determine who of these are sincere and who secretly promote different views. It is also true that in general terms they are sensitive to criticism some responding with extreme anger (cartoons or Pope) or possibly hurt if they have no effective way of mobilising an effective response.
Personally I am not very fond of characterisations of Islam based on selective quotations from the Koran. Selective quotations from the Bible could give almost any characterisation of Christianity. Unfortunately both Christians and Muslims are able to justify almost whatever they want with appropriate quotations.
My personal view is that Islamic culture is less used to the disrespect of authority and diversity of ideologies which is part of our culture and there is a degree of genuine hurt which it does no harm to accept in part.
My belief is we have to stand firm on measures to combat terrorism and on the rest we have to establish a dialogue - but it will be a long one.

I dont care how you spell, thats a good question. The american people need to wake up. When islams tear apart christianity, do you see us in the streets burning houses and going crazy. No because we are rational people. Islam is a religion based around violence and death. If your sick of being called a terrorist why dont you speak out and stick up for the USA. You don't see any muslims in the US standing up and saying that what they are doing is wrong. When Japan bombed pearl harbor and we went to war with them, there were thousands of Japanese who stood up for the US and went and fought, they didnt stand behind a logic of we are too scared to speak up. TIme to face the facts and take a side.

Because civil discourse always tends to fall to the lowest common denominator. If you're at a dinner party with brain surgeons, they'll talk to you about the weather, or the local sports team because it's on a level that the lowest common denominator can understand. Most muslims are poor, uneducated, miserable and violent people. So, mindful of this, we lower our standards for these billions of dolts.

Simple we have allowed the PC brigade and Tony Blair to get away with it. Ask why Muslim Clerics are allowed to spout racial abuse at non Muslims with Police protection. Yet other Religions may not speak a word against them in public for fear of violence and riots. Although not all Muslims fit into this, if you allow some to do and say what they want the young will follow and it will never sort itself out.

The answer is in your question...just trade 'Islam' for the word 'Humans'.....Islamic's criticise and are certainly fair game when criticism is doled out from whatever source. So, your question seems to really be, "Why do humans act like humans?" My only answer to THAT is: BECAUSE THEY DO! All we need is food, water, shelter and medical attention...any debate about that is just a game of linguistics and legaleeze! The creators of contorversy would rather you think about anything BUT basic HUMAN NEEDS!

I think it is a problem caused by people using politically correct initiatives, to further their own political careers or otherwise, and by the misguided liberal elite who tink they're doing society a favour, whenh all they're really doing is causing confusion, fear and anger.
There are people who now feel they are no longer able to say what they want, and that we're in a situation whereby it is 'one law for them, another law for us'. And surely, don't some muslims feel somewhat patronised when the PC brigade want to ban Christmas in case it offends them? I'm sure some of them are angry that some stuck-up, 'hollier than thou' Guardianista thinks his views reprisent them, when the silly leftie prat is clearly out of touch with reality.

Because you are looking at it unrealistically. They ask the same about Christians. And many ask it about Jews, and so many others. You hear the criticisms of your beliefs, but not the criticisms of the others. You hear it when they attack you for attacking and yet hear nothing when your side attacks them for attacking. Everyone is attacking and then criticizing when they are attacked, that is the nature of varying belief systems. Suck it up and continue criticizing/taking criticism, or stay out of it altogether. But quit with the griping over a situation in which everyone is trying to find the right path and almost no one is right.

Becuase people keep insisting on making just these types of irrational generalizations, without any logic or statistical support.
You honestly think that only Muslims get to critize anyone? Or that nobody is making broad attacks on a religion that includes almost 20% of the world's population?

Because they are fairly primitive , feudal societies who haven't been exposed to western values of "turning the other cheek" or learning to laugh at themselves. Most societies that are primitive and closed to outsiders exhibit similar behaviors. Think of some cults...
