The most common use of the word "boot" would be referring to the rubber around the cv axle ends. Some mechanics will replace the boot others wil opt to replace the whole cv axle. It truly depends on where you are and what the mechanics around you will do. The cost for rear brakes and the boot should run between $100 and $1000.....I know that is a big spread but with not seeing the car that's the best I can offer

I had this trouble in my 4runner... the boot is the rubber case that surrounds your axle ... when it is ripped or torn then water can now get inside your axle causing a slow break down of parts... you will need a new axle... i would say in a honda under 120 with labor.... it might be less

well the cv boot is what is used to turn the wheels. if it is split, it is pretty easy to fix. there is a full civic service manual on www.honda.co.uk that will show you what you need to do. the brake pads are easy to do as well. the instructions are on the site as well. you can pick up a boot and brake pads on ebay pretty cheap.all in all about an afternoons work if your not sure what your doing. plus it saves you a fortune.
