we have been married for almost a year now, we sent all forms and money to immigration, they haven't let us know yet .if he can stay here , this is a constant burden, for he may have to go back to england. and i wish to stay here.

Did you get a receipt saying that your papers were received? If not, you need to call up because they probably lost your papers.
Also, most couples wait at least a year before they even get an interview date - so you really need to be more patient. If all of your paperwork is in order, then after you do the interview, he should have his conditional green card. While the application is pending, your husband can stay here. If the marriage is bona fide, then you shouldn't worry. Your lawyer really should have explained this.

if you are a citizen, he won't have to go back, but it will take some time for him to get his green card, the process is very long, it took my brother 7 years to get his wife to come here, even though my brother has been living here for 9 years, just be patient and it will happen, but it might cost you a lot of money in attorney fees because the process is very long and painful

It takes time, I know some times it takes 5 years or so. If you go the immigration office they can give you some idea.
