Buy low sell high, what else? Keep an eye out for bargain stocks, prices that are far below what a company is actually worth. Check the price to earning ratio and long term performace of the stock. If it is severely undervalued it will eventually "correct itself"

using short ETF on the market index, sit on the sideline with cash.
move to consumer staple index or healthcare index fund, in good or bad economy, people still need to eat or going to the doctor
