Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a high water potential to a low water potential through a partially permeable membrane.
Diffusion is the nett movement of particles from an area where they are at a high concentration to where they are at a lower concentration.
Both processes are passive...so basically they require no energy from respiration unlike active transport.

Osmosis is a special type of diffusion, referring specifically to water. Diffusion can refer to anything really - gas, ions etc.

Osmosis is diffusion through a barrier such as a semipermeable membrane. Simple diffusion can take place in any fluid environment, without the presence of a barrier.

They are basically the same thing, but osmosis is specifically for water only, where as diffusion is for anything. So, osmosis is the diffusion of water.

Osmosis :- the movement of water molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration

Diffusion:- Diffusion refers to the process by which molecules intermingle as a result of their kinetic energy of random motion.

osmosis is only the movement of water to equalize concentration on either side of a membrane or through a solution. Diffusion is the movement of soluble particles to equalize concentration.
