I used to work for Pickford's removals, and we always advised customers against it, because it is not only the shipping freight charges, there are also customs import duties and paperwork to consider and it takes something like 8 weeks at least. The best advice is to buy a car when you get there - it's cheaper all round. It runs well into four figures at least, and that was about ten years ago as best as I can remember - all I can remember is that shipping costs were by square footage but air freight was charged by weight - not that the latter is an option for a car in any case. It won't have got any cheaper since. It would almost certainly cost more than the car is worth, and for a private individual is not worth the hassle.

It cost my uncle thousands to ship from Canada to Italy and that was 15 years ago.
