Personally, I think it has a lot to do with many factors, but I wouldn't put age on the top of the list. I know of quite a few ladies in their mid to late 20's who have been unable to conceive after a couple of years of trying on their own (without dr's assistance). Maybe it's a combination of BCP and the way it affects some women's reproductive cycles. Maybe it has a lot to do with our environment and how it affects reproduction in men and women in general.

Firstly, I want to just point out that many women have problems getting pregnant because their partner has a fertility issue and not them.
Secondly, as someone who has one of the above (LOL) and has had many discussions with fertility experts about infertility in both men and women the one big answer you get as to what causes it is: Don't really know.
There are many things that can be a factor but it will always differ from person to person and it's very hard to say exactly what has caused it in every case. For example, it is unfair to say that being overweight causes it because there are thin girls who can't conceive whilst there are very large ladies who have.
The one and only factor that the Drs I've spoken to will absolutely swear by as a major cause of infertility in both sexes is smoking which neither me or my husband have ever done.

There are lots of reasons why women have problems conceiving:
- Overweight - women with a body mass index more than 10% above average start to have problems and more women are now clinically obese (30% or more above).
- Overage - fertility decreases with age, and over 40 you are many times less likely to conceive, but we are putting it off longer as, for example, housing costs so much and we are fussier about finding Mr Right
- Overchemicalled - moving to an organic, wholefood diet and buying a good water filter (not just a jug filter) enables chemicals such as the oestrogens in some tap water to be flushed out of the body faster. No one knows what the effects of chemical combinations of multiple pesticides are - typically they are tested separately - but there is anecdotal evidence, and some empirical evidence, to show that a healthy diet helps conception.
- Underexercised. When you exercise, your body produces endorphins, relaxes and, looking fit, you feel sexier too, so have sex more often.

There are so many reasons but personally I think it has to do with the use of birth control. Some women just have a hard time getting those hormones out of their bodies. Age is also a big factor. Many women are waiting longer before having children and are not in their "prime". The list could go on but there's a couple reasons for you.

There could be many reasons for this alot of women are overweight these days due to lack of exercise poor diet, excessive drinking, smoking etc, the pollution around is not getting any better so this could also be a factor. many women will probably be suffering for poly cystic ovaries and don't relies it as this affects fertility. But it could be down to the men as well poor diet lack of exercise excessive drinking and smoking. And many people are just to tierd to have sex any more due to work commitments and busy life styles

Women go to these fertility specialists, but fail to understand that some of it comes from their lifestyle choices. When you have a lot of sexual partners you catch things and don't know it and then when you try and get pregnant you cant. Most of the causes of infertility is from untreated sexually transmitted diseases.

It's something called infertility, either on the man's part or the woman's. Smoking has a lot to do with infertility and low birth weight in babies. I never smoked and gave birth to 4 healthy good weight children. Some people say alcohol too has something to do with it, but it's never harmed my new borns. I say smoking and drugs.

women are leaving it until later to have babies in favour of thier career. When their biological clock slows down past 35, there is less chance of conception

Because they leave it until after the age of 35 to even contemplate it, and biologically they've less of a chance.
I'm glad I had my baby at 26 - optimum age!

Because they don't have sex much. They sometime have sex too quickly. They have to have a sex in each month. If you're pregnent go to the doctor.
