Well.... I have to tell you this... was sworn to secrecy...but you know how it is.... just got to tell someone...

The King was having an affair with little Bo Peep and poor old Humpty Dumpty spotted them as he was sitting on the said wall... anyway... Little Boy Blue(Bo Peeps better half) was chatting to Humpty and he let the cat out the bag.. " the King has poached your girl"...in a fit of anger Little Boy Blue pushed Humpty of the wall... well... you can imagine how bad that made the King feel and Bo Peep gave the King a earfull so to make up for it he scrambled his men to saddle up and see if they could sort poor old Humpty out...

The moral for Little Boy Blue was dont act in haste because you could end up with egg on your face...

Phew.... feel better for that... dont tell anyone will you...

He fell...

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Greatest lesson in life!

You might like my daughter's favourite version of this rhyme:

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall,
All the king's horses
And all the king's men
Trod on him

Why was humpty on the wall to begin with? I would like that answered. He must have been cracked to Begin with or an egg would have known better than to get on a wall where he could fall.

I dont know if he got up there by himself. At first I was going to say that it was a risk that he took willingly by being up on the wall. It does say he "sat on the wall" doesn't it? If he willingly sat on the wall then it was the natural consequence of his choices.

But come to think of it, I dont think he got up there by himself! Someone could have put him there knowing very well that a mere egg would simply crack and that would be that! The rest is history...Well, a few have tried doing that to me I have been on many walls, I got caught before I hit the ground!

Lastly, it's a nursery rhyme, I know...
I think to the moral or lesson of the rhyme is to help children stand tall and straight and not hug the wall. Using the humor makes these children realize how they're standing. My kids hear these stories and they quickly stand tall and straight for me..until they found out Humpty is an egg.

Humpty dumpty was actually the name of an early british cannon. It did indeed fall off from the battlements and smashed. This prompted the nursery rhyme.

Mr. Dumpty was greatly resented for his conservative political perspective. The liberals pushed him off the wall.
