I have only back labor and because I have a back injury I can't take any meds so here is how it felt
baby #1 I felt like I was ripping to pieces but I also had this feeling that I was part of a bigger picture like one with all women form all times
baby#2 worse than baby one probably because I was scared from one I was totally out of control and felt a constant burning pain when it came to the actual pushing
baby #3 I finally learned how to breath right and felt enormous pressure but felt in control
baby #4 easiest birth - had my breathing real good and was able to stop pushing when they asked me to and then give a hard push and whoosh that wet fish feeling was great
baby #5 the head was really enormous and I groaned a real low animal groan which helped me concentrate the pushing was the easy part
baby #6 it was like a plug that popped open and whoosh he went real fast
baby # 7 had some minor complications and was slightly hysterical -I felt like the midwife had both her arms inside me
baby # 8 I don't even remember the pushing but the after birth was awful they had to work for an hour to get my placenta out

If you are on your back it is much more painful. Usually once you get to the pushing phase you feel alot more relief. You are able to go with the sensation instead of fighting it. If you push on your hands and knees it is much less painful for you. The only really bad part is the few seconds when baby is crowning. It burns as the skin stretches. But if you have someone apply warm compresses for the last hour or so of labour it really helps out alot.
Take care and good luck!

I had pain medication when I was dialated to a 6. Then, I encountered some problems and it took about 8-10 more hours after the medication for me to deliver. So, the medicine had pretty much worn off. It was like I had to push and there was so much pressure, but as the baby actually came out, it was suck a relief.

I have yet to have children but I was there when one of my closest friends had her child. She had to go without meds because the baby came too quickly for them to be able to administer any. She said it felt like she was taking a massive $h!t & that the only part that hurt was the contractions (of course!) & when his head & shoulders came out. After that she felt a ton of relief. She even said she wants to go without meds if she ever has another child too because it's cool that you get to feel everything.

I felt pressure, some pains, and burning as they crowned. I agree with Love Birth that delivering your baby on your back is harder...my son was delivered on my side and it was much easier.

I have to say that I was much happier when I was pushing my baby out then when I was dilating. To me it wasn't as painful as the contractions. Both my kids were unmedicated births.

My advice is to see if you can get a mirror because it really helped distract my mind off the pain to watch my baby be born.

I had an epidural and it still sucked really bad for me. After I had the baby the pain was unbearable. God that was just horrible.

it hurt!! I have 3 kids, and no drugs for the first 2, but on the 3rd, I had stadol, I would not recommend it. I felt like I was drunk, and I had no control over the pain. If I were to have another, I would ask for an epidural. keep in mind, that yes,it hurts, but we have all lived to tell about it, and you forget about it fast. if it was that bad, no one would have a second child!!

Honestly, I didn't think it was as bad as I had imagined it to be. To be honest, once I saw them I forgot about the pain.

It depends on your pain threshold and your ablity to relax. I did it twice totally med free, would choose to only do it that way. JMO
