You must be asking only the younger generation. The price of gas affects whether I can put more money in my savings and my 401K. It affects what type of gift to buy for my grandson's birthday. It affects how often I go out to eat and even how often I go out to shop due to the use of the gas. I have cut back demanding fun things like shoes, CDs, and movie tickets because I have to think of having money in retirement, about 15 years away.

For most people, rising gas prices cause their demand for luxuries such as cd's, movie tickets and new shoes to go down.
