You can open xls file with the help of Microsoft Excel, which will come with Microsoft Office. If you have installed Microsoft office in your system, in the Run (start - Run) you can type Excel (Enter) and you can open the document you need. or If you want to assign Xls documents with Excel. It is located in the Office installed directory with the name EXcel.exe
